MILFORD HISTORICAL RECORD SOCIETY

CENTENNIAL YEAR 1909 - 2009

The Milford-on-Sea Historical Record Society was established in 1909 and exists to research local history and to preserve records of Milford and its neighbourhood. The Society has a comprehensive collection of archival material in the forms of maps, photographs, books, recordings, transcripts of early records, microfiche and film and other specially compiled records and recollections.

A programme of lectures is arranged each year and these are held on the last Thursday of January, March, May, September and November.  This year, in honour of of Centenary, two Summer Events have been arranged. 

On Thursday, 2nd July there will be an outing to the Milestones Museum followed by a cruise on the Basingstoke Canal.  Details will be posted later.

From Tuesday 4th August to Saturday 8th August there will be a Centenary Exhibition in All Saints' Church Hall.  Opening hours will be announced.

Lecture titles for the year 2009 appear below.  Meetings are held in All Saints Church Hall, Milford-on-Sea, commencing at 7.45 pm. Coffee/Tea will be available beforehand.

Visitors are welcome at any lecture for a fee of £3.00.  If you are interested in joining, please contact the Society's Hon. Secretary for an Application Form.  Annual Subscription is £8.00.

Thursday 29th January             Annual General Meeting followed by a talk entitled
                                               'The Founding Fathers and History of the Society' by Chris Hobby.
                                                Afterwards there will be an informal Social Evening

Thursday 28th May                  'The Growing Pains of Milford from 1841' by Mrs. Daphne Austen
Tuesday 2nd July                      Summer Outing: Visit to Milestones Museum & cruise on the Basingstoke Canal

Thursday 24th September        'The Story of Rookcliff at Milford-on-Sea' by Mrs. Clare Church
